Step Code 101 - Design Professionals and Builders

An introduction to the Step Code with a focus on the design principals. The class will cover strategies for success and include some cautionary tales of failure. The class will also touch on planned updates to the National Energy Code and how that will affect region’s that do not adopt Step Code. Instruction in this class will assume a high level of building knowledge but little to no exposure to Step Code. This class would be appropriate for designers, builders and other building professionals.

Learning Outcomes:

o Have reduced fear and uncertainty about Step Code.

o Have a good understanding of what the Step Code is.

o Have a good understanding of what the Step Code measures.

o Have a basic understanding of how design affects the outcomes.

o Have a basic understanding of strategies for success.


Presenter Bio: 

Mark Bernhardt, B.Sc. CPHC, CEA – President, Bernhardt Contracting

Mark is also a Certified Energy Advisor and Passive House Consultant, and over the past few years has spent much of his time helping other builders gear up for Step Code and higher performance buildings.
